E V E N T | Mero Retro Blogger Party

07 April, 2014

A couple of weeks back I was lucky enough to attend an adorable afternoon of vintage clothing, cupcakes and champagne hosted by quaint vintage boutique Mero Retro, which resides in Clapton, the heart of East London. Mero Retro is the baby of the wonderfully glamorous owner, Sanju, which is kept in tow with the aid of her beautiful, striking right hand lady, Paula, whom are both pictured above. Initially, Mero Retro was located in Camden Stables Market, which was once a haven for vintage treasures but has recently been over-taken by more repetitive wholesale stalls which has ruined Camden's reputation. Although I spent the majority of my weekends there during my teenage years it has lost it's originality meaning it is seen as a little bit tacky and touristy. Sanju's strategic move to Clapton has ensured that Mero Retro's charm has not been lost in the busy bustle of Camden market. In fact, Clapton is becoming the next upcoming hotspot in London for hipster and young creatives as they spread across from Shoreditch, whilst Mero Retro are the first vintage store to set up there.

Although my style is heavily influenced by vintage, I've got to confess I've lost my patience a little with vintage shops recently. I was in Brick Lane a few weeks ago and found I was getting infuriated with searching through mounds of overpriced rubbish to find one or two pieces that my purse couldn't stretch to cover. Maybe it's because I've become so accustomed to charity shop and boot sale prices, but £50+ for a secondhand dress just seemed a little extortionate. However, Mero Retro managed to restore my faith in vintage shopping as they source only wearable pieces for a fair price, which is certainly hard to come across in London.

The afternoon was spent with fellow bloggers Toni from Fashion Your Seatbelts, Jaclyn from Bumpkin Betty, Julia from Stylonylon and Paula from The Pho Diaries. The afternoon was the perfect recipe for a blogger event as it included gossiping, laughing, personalised cupcakes, champers and dressing up in vintage goodies! Sanju was kind enough to offer us each a piece from the shop, which I must admit was a tough job as there was so much choice! I ended up choosing these incredible embroidered cropped dungarees that may end up sitting in the man repeller end of my wardrobe but I really don't care because I adore them. Although my boyfriend's face was more confusion than disgust when I pulled them out of the bag!

I can't thank Sanju and Paula enough for what was a perfect Sunday afternoon in the most wonderful and ideal company! Keep your eyes peeled for an upcoming giveaway where you could be in with a chance to win a voucher to spend at Mero Retro either in store or on their website here. Also, for the next three months you can get 15% off of any online purchase with the code 'fox&feathers' when entered at the check-out. Happy shopping!

  2. I'm the same with vintage stores, it seems like you put the label vintage onto something and it's added £30 to the price. I do love second hand clothes though so I shall have to check out mero retro. Love the cupcakes and the photos <3
