D.I.Y. Tie Dye & Charity Shop Haul

06 June, 2012

All hand tie-dyed by myself

I've decided on creating an absolute monster post of my tie-dye endeavours from last week and what vintage goodies I've been buying from charity shops as I've had a ton of luck recently, especially when I visited home in Essex. As well as the photos above I also tie-dyed some bedsheets for my new bedroom when I move into my new house next month. For the first time in 21 years I am going to have my OWN bedroom so I'm excited to decorate it just how I want, so it's going to be an absolute tie-dye haven. I'm really pleased with how they've all turned out. I have no particular method when it comes to tie-dying, I just elastic band the t-shirts randomly and dip away. The Florence & The Machine and the Joy Division t-shirts are my favourites. I never wore them much when they were plain white but I'm sure I'll be wearing them constantly now. I'm intending to keep regularly tie-dying t-shirts over the summer and sell them for an affordable price, so keep an eye out for those!

Jacket: Urban Outfitters Renewal, £33 (with staff discount) // Shirt: Urban Outfitters Renewal, £17 (with staff discount)

I suppose I'm cheating a little here as these two weren't from charity shops but I picked them up from the Vintage Renewal section at work this week. I've wanted an acid wash Levi's jacket for what seems like forever, but I've never stumbled across an affordable one in a charity shop or on eBay. Even with staff discount I still think I paid a little over the top for this, because knowing my luck I'll find one in a charity shop for a lot less in a month or two now. Also, it's actually huge on me so I'm not sure whether to return it or just wear it oversized. Oh well, I like to think I can prance around pretending I'm Rihanna in the "We Found Love" video. I just loved the sun, moon and boat pattern on the shirt too much not to let it go.

Butterfly Dress:, Charity Shop, £5 // Bolero: Charity Shop, £4

Blouse: Charity Shop, £3 // Dress: Charity Shop, £6

Denim Shirt: Charity Shop, £3.50 // Daisy Top: Charity Shop, £6

I really adore the little butterfly dress - the colour and print is perfect! I've been lucky enough to chance across lots of one-off hippie-inspired pieces, which really is what makes up the majority of my summer wardrobe. The daisy top has been a firm favourite of mine over the past month since I bought it. I picked it up in my local Cancer Research charity shop, which has recently set up a section dedicated to vintage & retro clothing. It makes it so much easier to sort out the vintage from the rest of the rubbish in a charity shop but if they deem something as 'vintage' they pump up the price, which is slightly annoying. However, it's a lot cheaper than it would be in a vintage shop so I shouldn't complain. Then again I've noticed a few times some pieces from Primark in where they've just cut the inner tags out and put it in the vintage section, which is super cheeky!

Crop Top: Charity Shop, £3 // Floral Shirt: Charity Shop, £3
Tie-Dye Coat: Charity Shop, £9.95 // Trousers: Charity Shop, £7.50

Skirt: Charity Shop, £5 // Skirt: Charity Shop, £5

The tie-dye coat which I believe is the most spectacular coat in the world (my Mum thought it was a dressing gown) was a little pricey for a charity shop buy but it was too magnificent not to let go! I think if I'd have walked away I would have regretted it for life. I don't ever even see myself wearing it maybe other than at festivals but it's just so wonderful! The trousers were also a little pricey but they're by an Indian designer called Anokhi and I've been after a pair of nice patterned trousers for a while to wear with some crop tops. As you may have noticed I'm quite fond of my midi and maxi skirts this summer so I couldn't resist these two aztec-inspired patterned ones for only £5 each!

This is actually only a selection of what I've bought my charity shops that I haven't featured on my blog yet, but I felt as if I may have bombarded you with quite enough images for one post! I'm hoping the sun shows it's little face again so I can actually get some wear out of the lovely dresses, crop and midi's I've bought.
