G L A S T O N B U R Y | A Round-Up

17 July, 2013

Before the sun had even risen on the 26th June 2013 I was struggling under the weight of a backpack that was several times wider than myself and contained enough wine to feed the nation, as well as enough novelty headwear to keep a class of nursery children amused indefinitely. This year I attended my third ever Glastonbury Festival. Ever since my first ever visit to Worthy Farm in Pilton, Somerset back in 2010 every other music festival has been incomparable to the miles upon miles of pure wonder and escapism at the Glastonbury site. You cannot take more than a few steps without seeing something other worldly that makes you double take. It’s safe to say that I intend to go every single year I possibly can.

This year was my favourite to date as I attended with a few of my best friends including Toni from Fashion Your Seatbelts. Two of my friends had never been before, so it was exciting showing them the ropes and watching them experience it all for the first time!

As you can imagine we were rather snap happy and I’ve compiled an outfit diary for my time at Glastonbury. Luckily the weather was on our side with only a brief spell of rain on the Thursday afternoon, which meant bare legs throughout the week!

On the day of arrival I was wearing this little pink, chiffon, floral number, which is predictably from Urban Outfitters around a year ago but cost me around £6 in the sale plus my cheeky staff discount. Even though the weather was divine I was wearing my faithful, gold, metallic Hunter boot wellies that have served me for years. Although they’re a little garish, they always receive a ton of compliments and are a little different from the everyday black pair. The Wednesday also saw the appearance of my H&M black fedora hat which I’ve been getting a lot of wear out of this summer.

On the second day I decided upon wearing this patterned, matching, boho-inspired two-piece which I bought from my local car boot sale last year for little more than £1! The skirt is a little on the short side, but just in case of any mishaps I wore my lace trim cycling shorts beneath it. The feather headdress I’ve had sat in my drawer for a few years after purchasing it from the River Island sale for around £2. Glastonbury seemed the perfect opportunity to finally get some wear out of it! In the evening when we decided to hit up the depths of hell in Shangri-La I swapped my head dress for a River Island fox ears hat to keep my own ears warm. Also, to keep the spell of rain at bay I had my novelty red Pacman inspired poncho, which provided hours upon hours of fun.

Friday was the first day of music in where we managed to catch Haim on the Pyramid stage and the amazing Arctic Monkeys in the evening. I managed to fall in love with the suave, suited and booted Mr. Alex Turner all over again. Excuse my teenage fangirl wooing, but he is most certainly the dream! My Hunter wellies were still on my feet as the short spell of rain on the Thursday afternoon had left some patches of mud across the site. What’s Glastonbury without a bit of mud though?! My outfit consisted of the tie-dye crop with a plastic sea shell hem, which I’ve featured in a previous post with some high-waisted, aztec-inspired shorts which I bought from the Urban Outfitters sale for around £10 with my staff discount. When the temperature dropped a little I threw over a striped, multi-coloured French Connection poncho which I picked up from an outlet store a few years ago. I had intended to wear it during Glastonbury 2011, but it never made the cut in my final selection. However, this year it did! My flower crown was an amazing £3 Primark purchase. I have a vast array of flower crowns including a few Crown & Glory numbers, however I was nervous to take them along in case they were ruined. For just £3 I wasn’t too bothered if this one was crushed on the journey or destroyed by what could have been unfortunate weather. If you're going to a festival and want an inexpensive, disposable flower crown I really recommend you check out your local Primark.

I always manage to do a little shopping at Glastonbury as the masses of vintage and ethical clothing stalls have so much to offer. On the Friday I picked up a vivid, oversized, linen tie-dye top, which was just long enough to wear as a dress. I decided to wear it on the Saturday because it was such a lovely, light material for the warm weather. By this time the mud had dried up almost completely so I swapped from the safety of my Hunter wellies to my all-black, Topshop Converse style sneakers.

Sunday saw a pretty lazy effort on the outfit front as I threw on my most comfortable vintage, acid wash denim shorts with an old Topshop embellished, lace vest with a vintage, aztec printed shirt threw over the top. By this point I was feeling a little less than fresh so decided to tie my hair up. However, this did not taint our spirits as we spent the majority of our Sunday afternoon in the crafts and healing fields taking hula hoop workshops and making necklaces from tree bark. It really was the most serene afternoon, before we spent the last of our pennies at the Brother’s cider tent in order to get overly merry for the headline act, Mumford & Sons and our last night out on Worthy Farm. We spent it at the silent disco, which used portable headphones so we could run around the site screaming our drunken little hearts out to The Strokes and Kings of Leon.

No words can even begin to tell or describe the sheer size and impact of Glastonbury. It is something I believe every festival goer should experience at least once in their life time. I already cannot wait until next year's! I realise I am the world's worst regular blogger, but I've recently moved houses and we're currently living without the luxury of the internet. I'm not too sure how long it will be until I'm reunited with the world wide web once again, but until then I'll be posting from the comfort of my local coffee shop when and where I can.
